Always wear fitted cotton clothes
Avoid loose synthetic fabrics, dupattas, or flowing garments that can easily catch fire. Sturdy cotton clothes and covered footwear are recommended.
Keep water and sand buckets nearby
Always keep a bucket of clean water and dry sand within arm's reach for emergency dousing and discarding burned sparkler wires.
Light crackers at arm's length
Use an extended incense stick (agarbatti) or safety sparkler candle to ignite crackers. Never bend directly over fireworks while lighting them.
Burst crackers only in open outdoor spaces
Never ignite fireworks indoors, inside balconies, near vehicles, dry brush, or electrical substations.
Supervise children continuously
Children should never handle or ignite fireworks without adult guidance. Store crackers safely out of reach of young toddlers.
Never re-examine a dud cracker
If a firecracker fails to ignite, wait at least 15 minutes before approaching it, and douse it completely with a bucket of water instead of attempting to relight it.
When in doubt, douse it out. Safety first, always.
